L’Ecole bleue – France’s Youngest Naval Recruits
1978
30 minutes - French
France’s Ecole des mousses in Brest trains the French Navy’s youngest recruits, introducing them to a life at sea as members of the armed forces. Anne de Boismilon and her team followed these recruits in their day-to-day activities: learning the basics of sailing on a training vessel, completing military exercises, and preparing for sea rescue operations. Anne also accompanied them on the streets of Brest during their free time. This report brings together insightful interviews with the young recruits, their teachers, and beautiful images taken at sea.
